Frohe Dienstag aus Regensburg!
I'm starting to see the early signs of spring, from crocuses in colorful clusters, to buds and even pink blossoms on some trees, to longer days. The days are in the 40's Fahrenheit, and the nights occasionally dip below freezing.
I was planning an excursion yesterday to a site outside of town that a thousand years ago was a fortress built on a hill, called Burgruine. Now it's all ruins, and with a view of Regensburg that I've been told is tremendous. I had the bus all figured out, or at least I thought I did. How hard is it to get on bus #5 and ride until you reach a certain stop--all detailed on the website of my destination? Too hard, I guess, because bus #5 went as far as the shopping mall north of town and announced that it was the end of the line, everyone get off. I went across the street and caught the first bus back to the main station. Maybe another day, if I can figure out why a bus that the map shows to go all the way to this site ended at the mall. In German class today, where we have students from a multitude of nations, my fellow American brought 'ants on a log' for his snack. Several of the other students acted shocked and surprised that you would put peanut butter and raisins on celery. When Jason offered them some, at first they shrank away from it, but then their curiosity overcame their fear and they tried it. Everyone who did took their first bite, looked thoughtful, took another bite, and declared it to be surprisingly good. The young lady from Malaysia even took a picture of it. So, 'ants on a log' must be quintessentially American.
This is the last week of B1 level class. I'm not planning to take the B1 exam, which I've heard is really hard, and costs over 250 Euros, since I'm not planning to stay. Funny, how I wanted to stay at first, and I'm happy for the experience, but I don't want to live here any longer than planned. Next week, I start Level B2 with only a few students from my current group. I hope we focus more on speaking.
In less than two weeks, I have an excursion to Passau planned, but I expect I'll write more before then.
