Today is cool and drizzly, and kinda reminds me of an Alaskan summer day. It's the first time it has rained since we arrived just over 2 weeks ago. It's drizzled a few times for an hour or so during the night, but this is the first time it's been rainy all day.
We finally made it to the Stone Bridge (Die Steinene Brücke), which was built in the 12th century. It spans the Danube and is one of the symbols of Regensburg. Before my knee surgery I said one of my goals was to walk across that bridge. I did it--across and back!
I had to try a Turkish Döner Kebap yesterday. On one of the YouTube channels I subscribed to in preparation for this trip said that was one thing anyone visiting Germany had to try. Small restaurants and food trucks abound, and many of them offer Döner Kebaps. They are similar to Greek Gyros, and just as tasty.
Last evening (Thursday) was Vespers, which was a quick hop on the bus to get to. It is St. Emmeram of Regensburg's feast day today, which is celebrated the night before at church. He lived and was martyred in the 7th century--long before the Stone Bridge was built! There is a Catholic church named after him, and I wanted to go there to visit today, but the bus route wasn't close enough, and I'm still not up to walking that distance, some days being better than others.
Germans love their juice with breakfast. Apple and orange are the top favorites, but I've discovered one that's almost as popular. It's called Kiba...a combination of cherry and banana juice (Kirche und Banane). They also mix Fanta and Coke (not for breakfast), but I'm not eager to try that one!
